It is the primary job of the knowledge engineer· Through an extended series of interactions, the knowledge engineering team (that includes the knowledge engineer and the problem experts) defines the problem to be attacked, discovers the basic concepts involved, and expresses the relationships existing among them. This transfer involves a two-way communication (Hayes-Roth, 1984). At first, the knowledge engineer consults the problem experts for insight into how they solve particular problems and think about the objects and relations of interest.
